Mandolin and Guitar in Indian classical music: Snehasish Mozumder

Master musician Snehasish Mozumder will show us his specially adapted techniques for playing Raga music on Mandolin and Guitar.

Snehasish Mozumder is among those few established musicians in India who has mastered the art of playing Mandolin, and has blended it perfectly into the style of Hindustani (North Indian) Classical Music. Coming from a musically oriented family, he started his initial training at the age of four with Tabla and then Mandolin under the guidance of his grand father late sri Bibhuty Ranjan Mozumder and then he took training under his father famous lap Steel Guitar player of Indian light Music late sri Himangshu Mozumder and his uncle famous sitar player and composer late sri Ranjan Mozumder.

Gradually he switched over to his cousin Pt Tejendra Narayan Mozumder who is a well known Sarod maestro of India. He continued his study under late Acharya Ajoy Sinha Roy who was beloved disciple of Baba Alauddin Khan Saheb, the founder of Maihar Gharana and he takes lesson of laykari under the guidance of late Pt Anil Palit who is senior most disciple of Pt Kishan Maharaj. Finally he came under tutelage of Pt Ajoy Chakraborty.

Snehasish has performed many major festivals in India like Sankat Mochan Utsav of Varanasi, Swami Haridas Sangeet Sanmelan of Mumbai, Indian Habitat Center of Delhi, Bhowanipur Sangeet Sanmelan, Golpark Ramkrishna Mission , Saltlake Music Conference of Kolkata e.t.c. and also he performs regularly at Europe, U.K. and USA, and made a very good name among the music lovers. He performed International festivals like New York International Mandolin festival, Mando de Lunel at south of France, Calgary Folk music festival, Vancouver Island Folk music festival of Canada e.t.c. Snehasish is the recipient of Surmani and Jadubhatta Awards.

On 2002 Snehasish was invited by Pt Ravi Shankar for Ravi's Orchestra as a soloist at Royal Albert Hall of London for concert for George , and where they played with world renowned Eric Clapton.
On 2009 August he has performed at Lincoln Center solo and with his NY based fusion band SOM and in October 2010 his debut album of his New York based fusion band SOM has been released at World famous Jazz club of New York Blue Note and Snehasish Mozumder is considered as the pioneer of North Indian (Hindustani ) Classical Music on Mandolin of this decade.
