
Brooklyn Raga Massive presents performances by BRM ensemble Celebrating John McLaughlin & Mahavishnu plus classical sets from Arun Rammurthy and Samarth Nagarkar’s Khayal Ensemble as part of a public showcase affiliated with the Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP) Conference.
The first hour features two short sets of raga music representing North and South Indian classical forms. Arun Ramamurthy on violin accompanied by Sriram Raman on Mridangam will perform Carnatic/South Indian classical repertoire. Vocalist Samarth Nagarkar leads the Hindustani/North Indian performance with Vikas Yendluri on tabla and Keval Kavle on harmonium.
The second hour features Brooklyn Raga Massive’s Celebrating John McLaughlin & Mahavishnu ensemble. Featuring music composed and inspired by the works of John McLaughlin, while revisiting music selections from legendary Mahavishnu and Shakti albums of the 1970s and ‘beyond,’ this group re-envisions McLaughlin’s masterpieces and celebrates his vibrant solo and ensemble work. Featured artists include original member of Mahavishnu Orchestra Premik Russell Tubbs (woodwinds), Vin Scialla (drums), Anupam Shobhakar (doubleneck guitar), Neel Murgai (sitar), Joe Denizon (violin), Matt Geraghty (bass), with special guests.
