In this event, vocalist Samyukta Ranganathan will be taking you through her research into Voice Pedagogy for Indian Classical Music. A topic not widely researched, Samyukta cross-synthesizes current literature in registration and acoustics with the vocal needs of Indian Classical singers to create a teaching strategy for singers that bridges the gap between voice science and the oral tradition. Since the research is still nascent, she invites the audience to freely discuss some of these ideas with her. This presentation is meant for voice teachers and singers who are interested in vocal technique associated with Indian Classical Music.

Samyukta Ranganathan is an awarding-winning singer of classical South Indian (Carnatic) music. She began her training at age 8 and had begun singing in the South Indian music circuit by age 13. Just a few years later she was invited to perform solo concerts at a number of historic venues across the region. Since then, her experience as a classical Indian singer has been bolstered by an active performance career that included several cities in South Africa and the United States. Samyukta is currently working on completing her MA in Voice Pedagogy for Indian Classical Voices at the Voice Study Centre and the University of Wales Trinity St David. Previously, she studied at New York Vocal Coaching to learn how to incorporate vocal technique into her own style of singing and to begin a career as a vocal teacher of Carnatic Music. She also learns Hindustani music from Pandit Sanjoy Banerjee of the Kirana Gharana.
