
BRM @ Vanderbilt Open Streets ft. Compass
Sitarist Galen Passen and drummer Tripp Dudley bring the sounds of Indian classical music to the streets of Prospect Heights in the beloved summer series on Vanderbilt Avenue. Their first set will highlight the duo’s prowess with Hindustani classical music. In their second set, they will be joined by the amazing James Labrosse on guitar, as they delve into a mesmerizing collection of original compositions drawing inspiration from a diverse range of musical and cultural influences that connect the three musicians.
About the Artists
Galen Passen is a sitarist, composer, and visual artist based in Brooklyn, NYC. He studies and performs sitar within the Imdadkhani gharana (style). He has had the privilege of performing at such prestigious venues as SPAC (Saratoga Performing Arts Center), legendary folk venue Caffe Lena, The Center for Remembering and Sharing (CRS), Chhandayan Center for Indian Music, and Pioneer Works amongst others. He has worked with The Pittsburgh Opera, Brooklyn Raga Massive, Ollom Art Dance Company, The Silk Road Project’s GMW, and Korean Piri master, Gamin Kang.
Tripp Dudley is a drummer, tabla player and percussionist based out of Brooklyn, NY. His deep groove and virtuosity across multiple instruments have paved the way for his many journeys around the world with many different musicians. Tripp works with musicians from many different genres: prog-rock/metal, hip hop, funk, jazz, singer-songwriter, Indian classical, many different world-fusion groups and even the occasional off-Broadway musical. In 2009 he met his Guruji, tabla maestro Pandit Samir Chatterjee.
James Labrosse, a visionary artist, cultivates a unique musical experience that begins with the essence of Flamenco. Infused with modern jazz and electronic elements, his compositions blossom, resonating profoundly in the depths of every listener's consciousness.
