The BRM Concert and Jam Session returns for our second event at Barzakh Cafe, featuring Pranav Shikarpur and Kushal Sahabir. Experience the beauty of Indian classical music through a bansuri recital by Pranav Shikarpur, accompanied on tabla by Kushal Sahabir. Audiences can expect an evening of raga music in a gayaki ang vocal style, bringing the lyrical expressiveness of the human voice to the bamboo flute.

‍The performance will be followed by the legendary BRM Jam Session, based in ragas but free to travel the world and hosted by BRM Co-Artistic Director, Neel Murgai. Musicians coming to participate in the Jam Session get free admission. Sign up to play in the jam here https://event-sign-up.onrender.com/Event/177

Pranav Shikarpur began learning the Hindustani flute (bansuri) at the age of seven under the guidance of the late Pandit Venkatesh Godkhindi and has been studying with Surmani Pandit Pravin Godkhindi for the past ten years. In 2013, he was awarded the Center for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT) scholarship for Hindustani flute. He won first place in the Youth Instrumental category at the annual Swarashri Music Competition in Bengaluru. A strong believer in music as a universal language, Pranav has collaborated with musicians and dancers across genres, including jazz, Carnatic music, and Bengali folk music.

Kushal Sahabir is a NYC-based tabla player with a primary focus on Indian classical music and its traditions. He has received these traditions from his guru, Uchhal Banerjee, as well as past tabla players, and seeks to carry forward their accomplishments by presenting the classical arts in an aesthetic way to new audiences everywhere. Kushal is also a rising junior at St. John’s University, where he is pursuing an undergraduate degree in Actuarial Science.
