Video Highlights

BRM was officially founded in 2015, but our seeds as a collective were planted in 2012 during a weekly jam session at a local Prospect Heights venue. What began as a casual weekly event flourished and grew into a mainstay of the New York City arts scene, cultivating a vibrant community of diverse musicians and music lovers. Here's a glimpse of some of our great performances over these past 8+ years.

Our programs

Brooklyn Raga Massive conducts a robust slate of performance, education, and composition activities, all rooted in a unique melting pot of sounds, cultures and communities.

From our weekly concert series to our annual festivals to global tours, Brooklyn Raga Massive presents a diverse slate of performances from up-and-coming South Asian Classical musicians to one of our 11+ ensembles.

Our performance opportunities serve as a gathering place for the artist community, an incubator for larger projects, and a space for finding joy and building community through music, our ensemble concerts display our commitment to artistic excellence and extraordinary musicianship.

In line with our mission to preserve and document both traditional and emerging forms of raga music, we have professionally recorded and released multiple albums and compilations of music by BRM ensembles. Highlights include Brooklyn Raga Massive: Volume 1 (2015), Coltrane Raga Tribute (2017), Terry Riley In C (2017),Women’s Raga Massive: Volume 1 (2018), and Ragmala: A Garland of Ragas (2019) in conjunction with Go:Organic Orchestra.

BRM presents a variety of educational offerings as a way for general audiences to begin exploring the music of South Asia and America.

For example, our band Raga Kids exposes our youngest raga enthusiasts to the sounds of Indian classical instruments.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we built on this foundation by launching a public-facing virtual initiative, BRM Masterclass Series.

Thank You to our Funders + Partners

Much of our work and programming is due in large part to the funding we receive from foundations and granting organizations, who we've highlighted below. As an artist-led and community run collective, we are proud to collaborate with other leaders in the New York City arts space and beyond, with the goal of bringing raga based music to a broader community globally.
