Born in Dubai and raised in the US, Rasika Shekar's global footprint is evident in her sound. A listener with one ear in New York City and the other in India might notice intonations of street-driven Jazz and blues phrases layered with the playful styles of the Sufi, the ancient colors of Hindustani and Carnatic music, and the pure-heartedness of a Ghazal, all wrapped up into a single package. Rasika Shekar is a master of style, able to show a deep understanding of worldly sounds through their organic emulation. She is a trained vocalist and flautist both in Carnatic and Hindustani classical music.
